Frequently Asked Questions

Vaping - the basics

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, often referred to as vapor, which is produced by an e-cigarette or similar device. The term is used because e-cigarettes do not produce tobacco smoke, but rather an aerosol, often mistaken for water vapor, that actually consists of fine particles.

Vaping devices include not just e-cigarettes, but also vape pens and advanced personal vaporizers (also known as ‘MODS’). E-cigarettes, which resemble smoked cigarettes, and vape pens, which resemble large fountain pens, are typically simpler in design and less expensive than devices that have been customized by the user.

Generally a vaping device consists of a mouthpiece, a battery, a cartridge for containing the e-liquid or e-juice, and a heating component for the device that is powered by a battery. When the device is used, the battery heats up the heating component, which turns the contents of the e-liquid into an aerosol that is inhaled into the lungs and then exhaled.

How is Vaping Different from Smoking?

The difference between vaping and smoking lies in the characteristics of the aerosol that’s inhaled.

When smoking a cigarette, the consumer inhales the smoke that’s produced through the process of burning tobacco.

The term vaping, however, describes the use of a smoke-free product that forms a vapor that is inhaled by a consumer. Examples of such products are e-cigarettes.

What's a mod?

Mods do what they say on the tin – they modify the vaping experience. Over time, the term ‘mod’ has evolved to basically refer to any vaping set up that uses mods. An experienced vaper will refer to their whole kit as a ‘vape mod’ and will take it everywhere with them. It does take a little bit of research to understand how mods work and be able to use them to their fullest potential though. By far one of the most impressive attributes of vape mods is that they don’t use any electrical power to vaporize, allowing the battery to fire the coil at your chosen temperature all the time.

What's e-liquid made of?

Eliquid is the mixture used in vapor products such as e-cigarettes and usually contain propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, flavorings, additives, and differing amounts of contaminants. Eliquid formulations greatly vary due to fast growth and changes in manufacturing designs of e-cigarettes.
